Traverse City is a beautiful city in Michigan with plenty of attractions for you to visit during your stay. They offer a variety of breweries to choose from, but these top five local only breweries in Traverse City stand out to us. With locally sourced and brewed products as well as having loving and cozy environments for you to relax and have a couple of drinks, you’ll love your time at one (or more) of these places. Whatever it is you’re looking for while you’re traveling through, Traverse City has a brewery for you.
Breweries in Traverse City: Earthen Ales
Being closed on Mondays, Earthen Ales is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3 to 9 pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 9 pm and is the perfect place to stop by to grab a quick snack and drink locally brewed beer. It’s first come first serve so there’s no reservations, but feel free to give them a call to check for the availability before you arrive!
Earthen Ales started out as two individual brewers who fell in love (amazing beer and an amazing love story all rolled up into one!). Jamie and Andrew Kidwell-Brix started Earthen Ales after their love of brewing started to get slightly out of hand, as in, brewing more beer than they could drink themselves! Eventually, the two had gone on from inviting friends over to drink to opening up their own brewery (where they will be able to make plenty of beer!).
Right Brain Brewery
If you’re ever close to Traverse City’s SoFo district, don’t forget to stop for a drink at this local only brewery. With over 30 drinks on tap at all times, you’ll never have to worry about not having enough options to choose from! Right Brain Brewery opened in 2007 when Russell Springsteen was cutting hair. He soon decided he wanted to combine both his passion for brewing as well as his current business, managing both of them side by side. Eventually, he sold his salon and moved locations with his brewing company. Now, alongside the pub, Right Side Brain produces beers that are distributed across the state of Michigan! Right Brain Brewery is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 am to 9 pm and Thursday through Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm.
Acoustic Tap Room
This local brewery is calling out to all of the music lovers in Traverse City! Enjoy live music while drinking their hard cider and mead. Never had either of those drinks and don’t know if you’re going to enjoy them? Then grab a sample. After that sample, go ahead and grab a glass. Or two. Or maybe the entire bottle!
With not only live music, but also books, magazines, and board games to play while you spend your time over at Acoustic Tap Room, this brewery definitely set out to ensure that your experience is the best that it could possibly be! And, if you can’t have gluten, all of their acoustic draft meads are naturally gluten free! Acoustic Tap Room is open Monday through Saturday from 1 pm to 10 pm and Sundays from 1 pm to 7 pm. This is one of the best breweries in Traverse City Michigan.
Rare Bird Brewpub
Rare Bird Brewpub sets to offer you simple, yet familiar items served with a little bit more excitement. Whenever it’s possible, they look for locally sourced ingredients for their food as well as their brews, including hops and malt locally grown in Michigan for their beers. If you’re with your dog and don’t want to leave them behind, then there’s no need to worry here because dogs are allowed on the patio! Service animals are welcomed inside!
Tina Schuett discovered a fascination with brewing while living in Germany, and Nate Crane had begun to start his own journey in the brewery industry after having been working in the corporate world. Now, the two of them run their own brewery after working together where Nate had been the bar manager and Tina had gone into brew. Rare Bird Brewpub is opened Sunday through Saturday, 12 pm to 10 pm.
The Workshop Brewing Company
If you have “young apprentices,” otherwise known as children, don’t be afraid to bring them with you to this brewery as there’s local soda pop for the young ones! The Workshop Brewing Company welcomes beer enthusiasts as well as newcomers to the drink, with their “old-fangled” beers! Try something new, get something familiar. Whatever it is you’re looking for, The Workshop Brewing Company has something for you.
If you’re looking for a challenge while also being able to access beer, there is also an “Alecatraz Prison” Escape Room that makes for a fun and exciting experience! Just make sure that you book the game in advance as they don’t allow walk-in players! The Workshop Brewing Company is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 10 pm and Friday and Saturday from noon to 11 pm.
